Bad Manners!

What do you all think about the recent spate of questioners lacking basic manners? I have often referred to the superior knowledge of others having spent a few hours finding answers out by searching the internet but only for a few last questions that I just cannot find. I also search first through the answers given to others and generally find what I need that way. Recently several 'posters' have not even asked politely for help or given the full clues or letters known. One week someone basically asked for the answers to the whole of the Sunday Express magazine Prize crossword! Whilst it is great that there are kind and knowledgeable folk willing to help I feel that it shouldn't be abused! Or am I just old fashioned???????

Well no not really I do as you do, try my best with books (yes books) then google etc then check here.
I also love to give answers to others even if not always correct, but the lack of info ie number of letters or even a clue( we know who we mean) can be infuriating. Plus a thanks is not necessary but always appreciated.

There is absolutely no excuse for bad manners. After all people are voluntarily giving their time to help others.
I have learnt a lot from this site (from 'mamyalynne' and others ) and have been very grateful to all those people who have 'filled in the gaps' in my knowledge base.

You are not 'old fashioned' but I fear that manners are falling far short of what they were even a decade ago!

Yes thats my way too, ive got a cupboard full of books. I saw a typical question over the w/e, it said something like 3A. It doesn't help if dont read the paper its from. I always put where the question is from, the number of the question if applicable and the number of letters if given, it makes it easier if you are doing the same quiz/puzzle to track your own answer in order to help others

I have to agree that in recent times the content of a number of posts, both questions and replies, leaves much to be desired.
Surely when asking for assistance it is common courtesy, and also in ones best interest, to provide full details of the question.
There is also absolutely no justification for the downright rudeness of some replies, from those who object to particular questions being asked!
In recent times, my interest in trying to provide answers to questions has waned considerably for these reasons, and I spend comparatively very little time on answerbank nowadays!

What is worse than failure of the questioner to respond to any answers, is when a questioner selects an answer to respond to and totaly ignores the other responders.

Well thanks for all your responses. I don't feel so alone now and although it doesn't assuage my sorrow over the loss of simple good manners in society in general I would like to hope a few of the people I am talking about read what we have all written and at least think twice about trying a little common courtesy. I remain grateful to all those with much better general knowledge than myself and will continue to ask for help when I need it, politely of course !! X
