Cats don't like the smell of citrus so you could try putting some cut oranges or lemons on the soil in the pot. Worth a try and it won't harm the cat either.

:o)
If you put out old teabags with "Olbas" oil on them - my cats used to hate it so I would use this when planting out seeds etc to keep them off the soil.

naz - so you are the one who smashed my sons kittens face in and caused a 200 vet bill
not necessarily ...but the idea may have come from me ...

I but that stopped the damn cat from going in that garden though
Crushed moth balls is an inexpensive and effective cat deterrent
I agree with the moth balls but I'm scared of moths so they're difficult for me to catch! Another thing that worked for me was to put a small perforated bag with some of my dog's poo in on the top of the pots.
in my pot plants i either use plastic mesh or....dare i say it... cut down gripper rods laid on top ov the soil. And, if you can get hold of it, holly leaves, more prickly the better. x
trap the cat then phone the RSPCA and tell them youve
caught a stray and get them to take it away
