This is very well known.
It is also a good argument for teaching children to learn by "look and say" which has been discredited by the government advisers in favour of phonics.
Hi chris, surely that method would be problematic? A child might be able to read it, but then they would have to re learn spelling?

Iread an article in the daily mail a week or two ago .By a professor who said that some words in the english language are made problematic.For example knife.Why have a silent k when nife would read and sonud the same ?There are many other examples too.For example know and no .
