legally you can't, access is a part of Microsoft office which is an expensive product.

openoffice has a free database but it's not fully compatible with access

I believe you can get a discount on office for being a student though.

Your college should be able to supply a copy, if they have an enterprise or site wide license.

I need Access 2003 to be compatible with the college software. You can no longer get it from Microsoft.
