ideal elan 2, boiler fault
3 Answers
please offer any advice you can, the boiler seems to be working ok, everything seems fine when the boiler is on, however when the boiler comes to turn off when room temp on the thermostat is reached, the boiler turns completely off and the pilot light doesn't stay lit. when the boiler re-starts because the temp has dropped and the room stat kicks in, the boiler seems to be restarting from a fresh, ie, the electric ignition starts, lights the pilot light then the main boiler starts. The fault seems to be something turning the gas feed off to the pilot light, any ideas, thanks

The thermocouple is a safety device which cuts off the gas supply if there is no heat from the pilot light - ie the pilot is not lit. It is (usually ) about an inch or so long attached to a small bore copper pipe and is held in place in the pilot flame.
It is common for them to fail - I gues because the enviroment is quite hostile.
