My Uncle has recently gone into an elderly care home, unbeknown to ourselves, our Uncle has inherited some money from our Auntie, also has saving which amount to about 40,000. the cost of staying in this care home will be 500 a week, 26,000 a year till he is down to below 11,000, is there any legal way to give any away, to reduce his savings. Once he goes below 11,000 he will receive help with his payments.

No - he will be deemed to be wasting his assets to avoid paying his fees if he does.
If he can afford to pay his own fees then he should be doing just that. Why should the tax payer pay to keep him in a care home when he has more than enough money to pay for himself?
There are to many people in this country doing what you intend. You should be ashamed.
what seems unfair to me is that those that try to be careful and save etc end up losing it in a case like this, whereas had they just spent all that came their way maybe living a life of luxury they would get it paid for them?? does not make sense to me.
They are no 'losing it', they are paying for their living costs and accomodation.

If someone is paying for themselves, they can go into a nice home of their choice. Those who have no savings rely on state run homes which are not always nice or desirable.
I think you will find that people who do work & pay taxes all thier lives are entitled to a little help with board & lodging!

I would struggle to find anyone who works & pays 500 a week for a one room, shared bathroom, shared lounge, no privacy, no choice of meals set up, as it is in many care homes.

My late Nan set up some accounts in all her Grandchildrens names after she had a fall to disperse her 'assets', but this was done before she went into care......

Sorry I couldn't be more help, I hope you find a way for hium to recieve help with his payments!
people in care homes get attendance allowance, so his money will be depleted more slowly than you are presuming. has any one asked the uncle if he would rather pay for himself or not anyway?

i presume you are probably trying to protect any inheritance, but tbh this is a very dishonset way of doing it - the beneficiaries get richer at taxpayers expense whch somehow dosent seem right to me, that i wil be paying for someone in your family (you?) to get richer!
niallsmama - you are right. You could live in a one bedroomed room much cheaper than that.

But who would bath you, help you to the toilet, dress you, make sure you didn't fall, feed you, do all the housework, laundry, make sure you took your meds.....

I am a pensioner and pay income tax. I resent paying for other pensioners to have free care so their greedy relatives can benefit.
