Is it leagal for the police to park on the grass between the carriageways of a dual carriageway to enable easier access to trap speeding motorists? I am aware of at least 2 motorists receiving speeding tickets locally where the police have been parked in the centre of the dual carriageway. Is it legal for anyone to park there? seems rather dangerous to me.

I don't see why not as long as it's not an obstruction.

Probably much less dangerous than a bunch of speeding idiots roaring down the dual carriageway.

I know its illegal you K*** but there have been accidents on this particular stretch of road and i cant see how it helps with the speed trap in the middle of the carriageway when motorists can be caught with the police vehicle at the side of the road. Its not me thats been caught, I dont break the speed limit. It looked dangerous, thats why I was asking.

very possibly, but not racing or anything like that. The question was not about speeding. It was whether it was legal to park in the middle of a dual carriageway? Are the police allowed to park where they like? This stretch of road is already dangerous and its notorious for cars crashing and flipping over the carriageway, thats why it seemed dangerous to park there, I think everyone seems to be missing my point or maybe I am just not explaining it very well. IS IT LEGAL FOR POLICE OR MOTORISTS TO PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY?

Not if its dangerous to them or motorists. One would assume the safer option to be at the side of the roador a layby. Surely if a motorist parked in the middle of a dual carriageway, for a rest say, or to have lunch, it would be considered dangerous and possibly illegal. I talking about the grass area between the carriageways, where there are sometimes crash barriers. Do the same rules apply to motorists and police alike? or can the police park where they please even it it appears dangerous to them or the public.

I agree with you Lawsanass....I think the centre of a dual carriageway is a dangerous parking place for police and anyone else. It's a huge distraction to motorists on a thru road even if there is a speed limit. The motorist has enuf trouble watching hazardous traffic up front/rear/under-takers & motorbikes.

Next the police will be parking in the centre of motorways to catch speeding motorists......you can bet if the police were maimed during these duties they would sue for compensation. I would like to see prosecutions challenged in Court?

At last, someone understands what I mean. Thankyou terambulan......Interestingly, on the front of our local paper this morning it is headlining with 'Highway to Hell to go single track'...... this is solely due to the amount of accidents caused by a dual carriageway situated in a bad positon.....its beyond me as to why the police would endanger themselves and others by parking there when they have othere options. Ime still unsure if its legal or not to park there, hence my original question, and secondly if police can park there, are the motorists permitted to do so, or can the police park where they please? Does anyone know
