it's a sign of a lack of vocabulary meaning people are unable to get the point of what they are trying to express across without using swear words.

Or they think it makes them sound hard.

Either way it's not necessary most the time. I do swear but very rarely and even at 35 I don't swear in front of my parents!!!
Who gives a F***!!!!!
Swearing was only invented in the last 50 years ?Doubt it.I evry much enjoyed watching deadwood on sky .They say the language used in it was that used at the time. One of the most used words was c**t So work it out yourself .

Hello Sleepy. I have been scooting round but have been very busy. Hope everyone is ok???
I can assure you that people swore fifty years ago .My Dad went to sea and could come up with some really ripe language if he chose to do so . He was born in 1903 .It's just that it wasn't the done thing at home and around women and children . I never heard my dad swear at home but I daresay he did when in men's company. I'm afraid that times have changed .....unfortunately .It seems that swearing is the norm nowadays .Social class doesn't discriminate either .I'm sure the toffs could F and blind as well as anyone much longer than fifty years ago :)
There was a lot of swearing in the 1950s - can't say I've noticed much change really.
We had a letter home from school the other day which was about the parents shouting swear words across the playground, mainly the four letter variety. I find it absolutely incredible! This is a primary school! No wonder the kids come out with the f word !
Don't get me wrong, i swear but to do it on a school playground just makes ya wonder what on earth is going through these parents head , or rather not.
People have always used swear words. In some regional cultures it's the norm.

I never heard either of my parents swear but I know that they did on occassions as other people have told me. I swear a lot more now that I used to - but not in anger and never to a stranger! When I swear it's used in front of close friends, usually while relating a story about something. I don't agree that it's always a sign of a lack of vocabulary Chuck. Sometimes it's just the right way of expressing something (wtf! (with an exclamation mark - don't forget that lol) or lmfao.

Having said that I have frequently seen it used by adults TO thier children, not just in front of them which is so wrong - and results in it being used BY children to others which is again so awful to hear.

Oh - and the C word is NEVER acceptable (especially in front of a woman - don't know why but every female friend I have discussed it with feels the same).
