a friend of mine recently recorded my wedding on his new camcorder it was one which burns a dvd rather than a tape how can i copy the dvd onto a vhs tape for other family members

Play the DVD as normal but put the output through the video

One way would be to connect your DVD player to your video with a scart lead, play the DVD, set the video channel to AV (or EXT or whatever your video has) and then press record.
