I received a phone call to say that I have won a holiday with Avanti for a competition that I supposedly entered for Light Life some time ago.

Does anyone know anything about this? is it a scam or is it a genuine holiday win?

Sorry, should have said more.

The fact you are even asking indicates that you think it is a scam as well.

Almost 100% of these "free" holidays are linked to time shares and holiday clubs.

You will often find the "free" holiday will not really be free, and you will have to pay for flights, or some sort of administration fee.

Or IF it is free they will may it so difficult for you to take it you wont bother (they give you difficult dates or difficult airports to fly from).

SOME people say that have had "free" holdays with these offers (but probably spend 4 hours being sold a time share while they are there).

Personally I would ignore it, but it is up to you.

If you begin to show an interest you will probably regret it(you will also get bothered for ever with similar calls from other companies as your name will be passed on to other organizations if you show an interest)
It will probably lead to you being invited to a presentation of some holiday club, which you will have to sit through before being pressurised to sign up to the said scheme. The "free" holiday will have to be taken on specific dates and if there are more than two of you going - ie your children as well, if any - that will be extra. If you are strong willed and have a day to waste being bored to tears and then brushed off when you don't want to play , then go ahead.
I got one years ago, my husband binned it before I could assume it was a real holiday. Anyway a few months later there was an episode of Watchdog and it had a complaint about people getting conned into thinking they had won a free holiday. People had to pay hidden extras and had to go with their travel insurance and when it totalled up they ended up paying more than what a holiday would of cost if they had booked it direct themselves.
