Unbelievable coincidence
1 Answers
Whilst watching television this week, I'm afraid I can't remember which program, it was stated that Corby's main claim to fame other than being the largest gathering of Scots outside of Scotland is that it is the largest place in the UK without a railway station.
Goodness me, later in the same week, on another TV prog, exactly the same was said of a town in the South which I'm afraid I can't remember now but remember thinking at the time that they can't both be right. Any ideas?

I also recall seeing the other programme you mention (although, like you, I can't remember what it was), which referred to Slough.
It seems that the second programme was in error because Slough has had a railway station continuously since 1840.
Corby had a railway station from 1879 to 1966. It reopened in 1987 but was closed again 3 years later. A new station is due to open there this December. From then on, the title will probably belong to Newcastle-under-Lyme.
