it is important to have hopes and wishes they are what we strive towards as we approach the future sort of like goals. however its important not to focus too heavily on them hoping or wishing for things we may never get. Hopes and wishes should be based on what you can achieve or else they become disappointments

I think pinktwink speaks a lot of sense. Make your hopes and wishes achievable goals that you can do something about rather than them being something over which you have no control - then they are just pipe dreams in the gift of the gods.

I wish that I would win the lottery, George Clooney would return my calls, George's lawyer would lift the restraining order on me............

However, I hope that tomorrow my day goes as I have planned and that I get everything done that I need to.

i used to think winning the lottery or something similar would make me happy but someone told me a story which changed my mind.a man i know was a sales rep and got chatting to a customer one day and he was saying to the customer who was very well off financially it must be amazing to be so rich and have a huge house big car etc.the man i knew at the time was happily married with 2 young children.the customer's reply was....
yes i am very well of financially but i rattle around alone in my big house and i would swap it all for what you have a wife and two children.although i would still love to win a lot of money i realise it may be what you wish for but if your not happy emotionally before hand it wont solve all your problems
