Anger at work!

A member of staff went part-time a few years ago. She works one day per week and (supposedly) studies the rest of the week. She was always off sick prior to going part-time and still continues to call in sick. However, if she's not calling in sick she will call in for unauthorised leave. So far since the beginning of '08 she has only attended work 5 or 6 times!

My Head of Unit had an opportunity of sacking her 2 years ago but that fell through because of some legal claptrap which I can't remember the reason for.

What would you do in a situation like this? Its driving me mad!

SIR, we're talking being bullied. Now, depending on the type of person you are, you either handle it or don't. It's a fact that bullying happens in the work place. It's a fact that people are made very ill indeed by it. Do'nt be so flippant.

Sir, we'll agree to disagree.
This is something we won't agree on so no point in labouring the point.
Hey tiggs, you o.k? xxx
i know how u feel tigger xx

ive been working with this work colleage for over year and a half. and throughout that time.... i dont remember a full week hes ever been on time. he is always between 15 mins to 45mins late, when he gets in, he spends another 20mins making drinks, then spends around10mins on the BBC website (thatts the only site that we r allowed to use lol) then he does his work... 30mins - 1hr later he makes drinks again... he makes drinks up to 5 times a day. and spends most of his time on the website or just chatting.
thats just it..........
i am constantly correcting his mistakes.... hes making the same mistake (s) Everyday for 1yr and a half. i keep telling him, i show him how to do it correctly, and he just do it oppersiteor just carryon doing the ssame mistake.... even one of our new recruits is getting really annoyed with him and threatened to walk out cos of him. He is just so lazy, and doesnt do any work! he is not a teenager he is in his 30's for god sake... hes the oldest out of our team, even our supervisor is older than him.

we get paid by the hour, and all gets paid the same. he spends half of his day ... making drinks, going on websites and not doin his job properly.

i find this unfair as it feels like im doing double the work and double the time.

my superviser is aware of this, hes already had a word about his time management ... and also desk tidy (he leaves his mug/plates/ ... food wrappers, laying around on his desk until someone cleans it for him).... but time and time again hes not improving. apart from turning up on time... well just...... but lately hes like 10-15mins late.

no one wants to sack him, because we work in a really laid back envirnment... surely he cant get away with this for ever?? he would have deffo got the sack by now if he worked ina proper and stricter environment! he reallly stresses me out!

Hi Sachs, Bensmum and Whitebear,

Thank you for understanding my predicament. About 4 months after I returned to work my senior boss went off sick with depression due to the same person. He was making threats towards her. He did the same thing to another person 2 years ago. So thats 3 people he has bullied. He was removed from my department and is now working elsewhere. I just hope he is NOT manageing anyone else.

As for SIRandyraven, where would the country be without people working for the public sector? Who is going to do the job? If you think its easy you try doing it. From the moment I get into work I have to manage around 60 - 70 staff. Sometimes I have to work through my lunch to get things done. Another colleague is retiring next year and it looks like I'll be doing his job as well as they will not be recruiting anyone else to do it. Basically I'm stuffed and I won't get any more money for doing it! I'm nowhere near the top of the pay scale for my grade even though I've been working there for 20 years.

And to top it all off I don't even get a minute to log in to AB at work! Lol

I know what you mean WhiteBear, we have people like that where I work but I just try to ignore it otherwise I would be angry every single day at work. Lol. If no one is going to do anything about it then thats managements problem.
