Repairing exterior window sills.

I have a few concrete windowsills which have cracked along the lines of their reinforcing rods.

A local Jobbing Builder has told me that he could remove the weakened sections and, with shuttering and concrete, rebuild the sills.

Does this make sense, or should the complete sills be removed?!! which then appears to be a major job because plastic framed windows are resting upon the sills.

The original 46yr old sills have 'drip slots' along their undersides and, as an amateur D.I.Y'selfer, I feel this is important but question whether such could be re-instated with a 'build-up' job.

Any comments will be appreciated.........Ron.

best to supply & fit new mate .not a big job . your windows are only resting on the sills they would have been screwed to the side & top a small kango to break the sill in minutes

Hi pentonville...Thanks for having responded to my question.

I feel sure you are 100% correct to recommend a complete replacement of the sills, and I intend taking your advice.

My only concern now is whether the chappie I have in mind to do the work is really capable of the task. Who knows what can happen if you let loose a Jobber with a Kango hammer.!!

Perhaps my question, from a supposed D.I.Y'selfer, was a 'silly' one.
