You`re right Naomi that Adam and Eve came after the 7th day so possibly on the 5th day, the male and female that he created in his own image could be interpreted as the human race.
I`m looking into the Hebrew scriptures to see what they say about Lilith and Samael (from Ethel).
If you look back into this site on the subject of Adam and Eve, all of them are quoting them as being `the first`.
Maybe first named would be better.

Unfortunately, the Adam and Eve story is the one that is commonly taught, Tina - and since people believe their teachers, often without question, Adam and Eve have, traditionally, become the stars of the show.
If you're investigating the Lilith and Samael legends, you're looking at some deep and interesting stuff. I'd be interested to know your thoughts.
Flobadob, Not even lost in translation. Nothing so complex. The whole story is told within the first couple of pages of Genesis for anyone who cares to put all pre-conceived ideas aside and read what is actually there. It only takes a minute or two. Read just the few verses from Genesis 1.26 to 2.7.
Incidentally, Genesis 1:26 says .....And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ................. etc.
Odd that this should refer to man as 'them', rather than him, and to God as 'us' rather than me. One could quite easily believe that God was referring to more than one man - and to more than one God (which if you read on further, it seems there may well have been).
Oops.... what HAVE I said? Waits for the custard pies. :o)

naomi, there has centuries of debate over the verse you have chosen, and as flob alludes to much of it is due to translation of the Hebrew word 'Elohim'.
As with much of the Bible, a lot of Genesis seems to have been based on the Babylonian or Mesopotamian empires, and some say is akin to the Enuma Elish. Again, something that has been debated ad infinitum by many scholars and theologians.

Yes, I know Octavius.
Tina, thanks for that, but it wasn't a question to me - it was something I posted ages ago - and Chakka and I caught up in Quizzes & Puzzles, as we always do. We both do the same regular, but rather mind-boggling charity quiz, you see, and, out of interest, usually check on each other's progress - and we always have people who are doing the same quiz joining in to tell us how they're getting on. It's good to know how others are doing, since this quiz really isn't for wimps!! If you want to have a look at it, let me know and I'll post the link).

Can't see it Tina. It should appear on the main page, as well as in 'unanswered', and if it was posted on 27 September it should still be somewhere near the top of the page. Did you post it in R&S, or elsewhere?
Here's the quiz link.
