car struggles to start

I have a 1997 1.8td ford escort. it struggles to start every morning. I have recently had new glow plugs fitted wat is the problem now

You will need to check that the glow plugs are receiving battery voltage when ignition is first turned on. If no voltage is present it could be a wiring or heater relay fault. If voltage is present and glow plugs are new, then move on to check fuel system. Does your car have a press button type prime pump? As these are prone to their diaphragms failing, causing the fuel system to airlock. ( Can usually be checked by pumping with ignition off, pressure should be maintained and you should feel a fair amount of resistance in said button). If all ok, then look at poss engine fault eg compression loss due to worn rings or valve faults etc. Good luck!

Just because you have fitted new glow plugs doesn't mean they are working. You have to check first if there is power to the plugs through the relay when you switch on. Test with a voltmeter or 12v bulb. Don't try starting the engine as soon as the glow plug light goes out, leave it for another 5 secs. The heat from the glow plugs goes on heating the air in the chamber. If none of that works buy a tin of Easystart, spray into the air intake before starting.If it starts then you need someone to find the problem for you. You may have to check each glow plug is operating correctly. If you can't start it now then you have bigger problems that only a mechanic can diagnose. I.E. lack of compression, Fuel pump, Fuel filter choked, Fuel cut off solenoid, Air Filter choked. are just a few possibilities.
