partners parents
6 Answers
You may remember me posting a while back about my partners parents completely refusing to accept our relationship because of the fact that I have 2 children from a previous relationship. They have never met me and took it upon themselves to decide I was trash, which is so far from the truth!
They have now decided they would like to meet me....a lot of horrible things have been said about me, and I know im going to find it hard to put a smile on and be pleasant, I know I have to, but in all honesty, I dont even know what to talk to them about...what do I discuss, my life, which they obviously dont approve of, I just dont know. Im dreading meeting them as I know they will be judging me the moment I step through the door, my fella said they will no doubt ask me lots of questions! A lot of problems were created by them but we have continued the relationship regardless, we have been together for nearly a year....do you think they will feel as awkward as I do?

arent they lucky to have 2 ready made possible future granchildren!!
Just go with an open mind and be yourself. Parents can be a nightmare - their son has chosen yo and you make him happy. How small minded can some people be!!

One of our daughters has been trying to live up to her 'parents-in-law's' standards for far too long & at times has made her feel quite low.
However, a few weeks back, my husband gave her a good bit of advice. He suggested to her that she should "Stop trying to be their daughter-in-law & start being herself".
She has recently started doing this & is beginning to feel much better for it!
Good luck to you & yours happychick. -x-

My MIL was the same. She didn't have the guts to say anything to me but spread it around to all and sundry that I was a mongol and a fat common criminal. (I am only fat by the way)
She has softened a bit now (15yrs) and luckily I don't see her that often and when I do I am civil but distant to her.
For your boyfriends sake and future relations be pleasent but don't try to be pally they will just slag you off for being too needy.
Perhaps you could suggest the first meeting is on nutral ground at say a restaurant or something so that you don't feel they have the upper hand.
Your boyfriend obviously cares for you or he wouldn't of carried on seeing you for so long but I would be careful about making him choose even if his parents are horrid. If he sees or hears how they are this will make his mind up.
Good luck

Thank you all so much for your answers, I have taken them all on board!
888sally888, small minded...agree 100% lol
Smudge, that must be hard for you to put up with, dunno how you do it, let alone your daughter, and your husband is right with what he says.
Cassa333, cant believe what she said about you, dispicable, even if you are a bit overweight, whats that got to do with her?!!!!!. I will be pleasant, but will not or never will come across as though im desperate to win them over, they either like me, or they dont...but I hope they do as it will be a lot easier for my man and for us as a couple..
God, why are these people so narrow minded, I would never do what they have done, especially after the fact that they havent even met me!!! Just dont understand them.
Thanks all once again! xxx
