Jabbrz - anyone using it?
7 Answers
I just came across Jabbrz and was wondering if it really is as good as it says. Can you really use your phone to call abroad on Skype rates?
I read on Jabbrz that if you have allocated minutes in your mobile phone contract it won't cost you a thing. Is that right?
What is the quality like?
thanks

You have to be connected to the internet to use the service. My mobile phone costs me far more to connect to the internet than to make a call.
I know that some networks bar Skype.
I can't see what Jabberz get from it either.

I saw this on their blog:
"Basically, you register and download the free software to your PC to get started. Just leave your computer on with both jabbrz and Skype running and a constant internet connection and you can make cheap phone calls to anywhere in the world using your mobile phone. Even better you can call your Skype buddies for free!"
So are they saying that if you turn your pc off it won't work?

Reading their forums, it seems it's not enough to just have Skype - you also need a SkypeIn number (which you need to pay for). If this is true, I'm guessing that when you use it, it calls yours SkypeIn number, and it is then re-routed from your computer back out through Skype or SkypeOut to the number you are calling.
It really bugs me when you try to find out how something works, and you just find endless copies all over the Net of the company's own instructions on how to set it up - how you use it and how it works are not the same thing!

I have friends and family living in South Africa and use www.localphone.com You have to open an account with them, minimum of 5.00 credit for your calls, register your phone and all the overseas numbers you are likely to be phoning. They allocate a series of phone numbers against the ones you have registered and as the name suggests these allocated numbers can be phoned at local rates, also within my 250 free minutes/month on contract. The cost per call to South Africa is 7pence/min to a land line but more to a mobile. Hope this works for you , It's all I use
