Inappropriate material in school libraries
2 Answers
My 11 yr-old step-daughter came home with a letter from the school asking whether we wanted her to have full use of the library or for her to be restricted to material suitable for her age. This is because in the past parents have objected to some of the vocabulary and subject matter in the books. Any advice?

At least the school have thought about the potential problems - I don't recall getting any such communication from our public library, nor for the school libraries my three were introduced to.
At least if she brings the books home you can have sight of what she's reading and stay one step ahead of the game!

I'd sign the form for her to have full access but I think it's good the school have asked the question.
Whilst the content may be more adult at least the information will be accurate - better than her searching the internet or getting incorrect information off freinds etc. If she brings books back you can talk through any issues as dundurn says - maybe even suggest that to her at the outset.
Depressing as it sounds if she really wanted the books and you said no she could get a mate to get them for her any way or google the internet for the info.
