i have a british passport that was issued in 2002 will i need a visa to travel to america for a 2 week holiday

If you are asking if your passport is valid, then yes, it should be. Mine was issued in 2002 and has the <<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>> bits at the bottom of the page with the photo on.

your passport is presumably valid until 2012? It should be ok. Most people don't apply for visas, they fill out a visa waiver form on the plane saying they haven't any convictions for drugs or offences of moral turpitude, haven't tried to overthrow the US government etc. (But if you have you may need to apply for a visa - see the links kempie and spudqueen provided.) This will soon have to be done online before you go.
VWP is not available after Jan 09 so if you are travelling after that you will need to apply at least 72 hours before you leave

Hi,
If the Visa Waiver is ending in January,does that mean that everyone will have to apply for visa for travel to the US?
