What is the conviction for hitting a pedestrian?

I was reversing out of a car park when i hit a woman who was behind the car. Id checked my mirrors before starting the manouver, but still managed to hit her and crush her between her van and my car. The police turned up and took breath test, statements etc.. and the woman was discharged from the hospital and given the day off. Ive only had the car a day, not used to it, and she was parked on double yellow lines. Also, this happened on a military base, thus private property.
What possible convictions and sentences/points could come about from this, and would it effect my insurance quote if i have protected claims?

at a guess i would say dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention. She will most probably claim on your insurance. They wont increase it this year, but are likely to increase it at renewal if you have a driving conviction.

It matters not a jot how she was parked. As a driver it is your responsibility to ensure the way you are going is clear.

When you are reversing it is not enough to rely on your mirrors, you need to look all round as you progress.

You could be charged as already stated, undue care and attention which carries 3 - 9 penalty points, a fine and /or disqualification and if she claims you could lose your no claims discount.

You will definately be charged. My guess is driving without due care and attention. You will either receive the conviction and fine or, depending on where you live you may be offered to attend a drivers awareness course. The course is an alternative to the usual points and fine. Courses cost around �200.
