what replacement radiator?

HI , I am redecorating and have removed an old radiator .It is a bit rusty on its bottom edge so I was going to fit a new one.On measuring it , it is 30" across from valve to valve so its imperial and all modern rads appear to be metric .Without altering pipework Is there a way of fitting a metric rad (30" equals 760mm) or can I still get a like for like Imperial radiator.Thanks.

jigman, If you can't find an exact match regarding the width of the radiator and you don't want to alter the pipework, your new radiator would need to be smaller in width. To compensate for the difference, you can aquire radiator valve extensions ( chromium plated ),from Wickes etc.
Also, in order to compensate for the heat output difference because of reduction in width of radiator, you may wish to aquire a taller radiator, or select one with fins or possibly a double one.

if you go to a proper plumbers merchant rather than somewhere like wickes they will have a larger choice of radiators, different makes come in different sizes and there should be something very close to the size you need.

you also need to see how much play there is in the exisiting pipework has often there is enough to flex the pipework onto the valves.
