I have had this printer for several years and have been well pleased with all aspects. However last week it was 'refusing to print out anything' After checking everything and refilling inks I then got message
"parts inside your printer are at end of service life see documentation for details"
I found reference in FAQs which suggested needed service by Epson and ?resetting. I thought this might prove costly as well as inconvenient so have purchased a replacement. However before disposing of machine I would like to know if it is likely to be of further use and If I could actually 'fix' it and pass on to someone else

Believe it or not, inside every ink jet printer, there is an enormous blob of sanitary towel-type material, which soaks up the ink which is wasted every time you turn the machine on, clean the heads, perform an alignment. Eventually, it can soak up no more, and that's pretty much the end of the printer.

And, no, I'm not trying to be funny.

Thanks Rojash - seems I did the right thing and the printer certainly provided good value for my money over the years hope the new on does just as well will checkthe right way to dispose of it now
Many people also believe this is a type of scam - the manufacturer programs the printer to stop working after a time. Repairs are more expensive than a new printer and you now have up to date performance.

Thanks for that Neil.Have looked at and bookmarked the link and I may give it a try (if only to use up the full cartridges in it) nothing to lose although I am using Vista and only up to XP listed. Having said that in theory it wasn't supposed to be compatible with Vista any way although I've been using it for the past 18 months
Try holding down Stop,Color,B&W,Load/Eject,buttons and then press and hold down the On button(thats all buttons mentioned held in together)After a few seconds the printer should display a message something like Ink counters reset.Release all buttons, turn off using on button.Switch back on and printer should work.Done mine 4 times now and had no problem with ink leaking.

thanks very much bspin sounds brilliant - will give it a try
The printer does not need to be connected to the computer to reset, just needs mains power. Will not work for paper jam or mechanical failure or dud heads etc.Just try and hope its simple ink count. This error message displays after a certain time or usage and disables the printer. The ink pads that soak up the ink from automatic cleaning cycles are very generous and can take many resets.Hope you are lucky on this one.
