I am repairing a very old railway wagon. To provide a watertight seal between two surfaces I need to apply a strip of sealant / mastic in a form like putty or plasticene. The conventional sealants in an extruded form are not suitable as they are not thick enough to hold in place. I need something that I can mould into shape. Anyone out there with any ideas please. I am sure I have seen a product in roll form that you peel off what you need but can I find it? Help please.
On the old Mercedes SL (sports cars) hardtop, it is apparently a common mistake to use modern extruded sealants to fit the gutter channels. The Factory used linseed oil putty, & this is the recommended substance for a renovation. Old cast iron guttering used putty which could last forever undisturbed. I would go for putty & resign yourself to rolling lots of sausages! I also have seen the roll stuff, but can`t remember where. Homebase?
