Who is George Sava

I have a an autobiography called 'The Healing Knife' by the 'George Sava' a pseudonym. It was published in 1938 and is about his career as a surgeon. It is rather a dramatic story. He has authored many other books and I am curious about who he really was.

George Alexis Bankoff. Born 1903 - but that's all I know.

I don't know much more than you although I have read several of his books. He came across as a very personable man and 20 years ago when I was a medical student, I wrote to him. He had the decency to pen a handwritten reply even though he was very old at that time. I told him how his work had inspired me and he said he would love to meet me. Sadly I never took him up on the offer - an action that I will always regret.

He's my father-in-law, thought sadly I never met him either - he fathered my husband when he was in his 60's and died aged 94 about 8 years ago..
