Problems starting Crech.... Any help appreciated!!!
Hey all, hoping someone can help me here! my little lad is two this month, and hasnt ever really been to a crech or nursery before.
I've just started at the gym and am doing hour long classes, so far twice a wk. The first time he was fine, a little upset when i got back, but the manager said he was ok. This morning i put him in, and left him playing, they came and got me out of the class i was doing, as he was so upset! he has his back teeth coming (i think) so he's a touch clingy and snotty.
Should i just carry on going, and hope that he gets used to it? Thinking about packing a couple of tasty snacks (like biscuits or chrisps) in stead of fruit as he always perks up when there about! is that wrong to do that? Any one got any answers?
My hubby really wants him to go to nursery, he's been harping on about it since he was 1, but i wasnt ready and didnt think little man was either. I think he's now at an age where he'll benifit, but if he's like this at crech then surely a nursery would be more scary for him? Should i keep him going to this crech then when he's used to it then start nursery? My hubby thinks that a nursery would be better as there are more children and toys! Wouldnt it be more unsettling though? (the crech is lovely only up to 6 kids per session, they do all sorts of activitys and i think there is plenty for him to do)
Anyone got any advise? It would be much appreciated!!
Thanks xxx

The good thing about nursery rather than a creche is that your son will have similar aged children in the same room as him and they will probably be the same ones if he goes regular days so he will get to know them.
Nurseries also offer you a settling in period where you go once for an hour and stay with him, then go again and leave him for 30 mins then go again and leave him for an hour - so he knows you come back.
My son has come on leaps and bounds since starting nursery.

the staff at a nursery have more qualifications and are used to tantrums than a sport centre creche they should only have got you if your child had had an accident or was unwell if they cant cope with kids having tantrums they dont sound very competent, what about a child minder who will look after him in their own home with maybe 2 or 3 other kids he might be better off with a smaller number of kids around him and more one to one time frome the child minder
I agree with both the above. Having said that, my daughter goes to a gym once a week and leaves her 22 month old there. When she started going, she went with a couple of friends, who left their children there too. I think she found it easier, settling in with 2 familiar children there too. As for your other half, trying to pressurise you to leave him, you stick to your guns. A mum has a much better feel for when he's ready. The best thing a mum has is her instinct and I believe you can't go far wrong if you go with it.

i was lucky with mine, she has a very outgoing personallity and took to nursery straight away, she loved being around other kids, tho she had the occasional cry in the morning when i dropped her off, you know the pulling of the leg please dont go mummy!! god it breaks your heart, but i called up as soon as i got to work and they said she was fine and happy playing!
all kids are different but you need to be persistant, they will get used to it, some sooner then others, but it will do nothing but good for your child, they learn so much from other children from a young age, its brilliant social and interacitve skills, just hang in there, you will find soon your son will love playing with the other kids and maybe even moan when you pick him up!! sometimes my daughter used to day " mummy, please can you come back later to pick me up and having lots of fun with my friends" lol
good luck xx
