Whilst I am not afraid of spiders myself, I feel for those who are. The site below may be of some use, but think you will need some help removing the spiders afterwards:

Does anyone know the full poem which starts:
"If you want to life and thrive,
Let a spider run alive"
Put some conkers in every room in the house ,scatter them behind the t.v,settee, chairs, behind beds, wardrobes etc, spiders do not like the smell of them top up with new ones about every three months, works for me,good luck.
I also loathe spiders, but I accept that they do a good job in keeping down insects in the house which would otherwise spread disease.

I always ignore spiders when I see them, I shudder, but i ignore them, because I know that within a day they will be gone, out of sight, and if i can;t see them, I don;t worry about them.

It is probably impossible to eradicte all spiders from a house - even if youo get rid of the current incumbents, there will be eggs to hatch, and new ones will come in.

Best just learn to at least tolerate them if you posibly can.
May be try to go to a class or psycholigist to help you with your fear.
What harm to British spiders actually do, more good as what andy said.

I wouldn't want to touch one, but I don't mind them, look the size of them compared to us, bet there terrified of us!
Those ultra-sonic things don't work (I've tried them with rats & they're useless!). Spiders are good - but if you really are scared of them, a jam jar and a piece of card work wonders (pop jar over spider - mind its legs! - slide card underneath, deposit spider in jar, put lid on and then release into the garden.). I actually like spiders, but I can sympathise if you don't. The only time I get a bit jumpy is if a really big one surprises me, like hanging on the side of the staircase, when I'm not expecting it!! There was a huge one in my bath last night and the cats didn't even tackle it!! I caught it this morning, using above-mentioned method and put it outside. K x
Hi my mum in law lives in the country and bought 2 really expensive ones off a shopping channel.. well i can personally guarantee they dont work!!
Im also scared of spiders and whilst staying in her room one night whilst she was in hospital with her dying father one HUGE brown this came strolling in. i threw a book at it whilst standing on the bed and gave it head ache!! she always has them in there. Dont waste ur money!
Fear, Revulsion, of Spiders ain't uncommon!

But they do So Much Good! My House Spiders is Welcome Guests! They be the Reason I am Not Plagued by Cockroaches!

With the Exception of the Black Widow and the various sorts of Brown Spiders, ye cold be considered Lucky!

And them Webs, in the corners of yer Home!?
Tear them down only when they begin to appear Brown! They are acting as Might Effective Air Filters, which is Why they Turn Brown, as they Cleanse the Air in yer Home . . .
