Here in the western U.S., this time of the year with its warm, sunny days and cool nights with intermittent rain is the best time for growing lettuce and radishes for fall salads. We'll normally expect our first frost sometime in mid-October, after which, all is lost. We leave carrots and late sown red beets for after the frost... in fact the carrots do well even in frozen ground (but not the beets). Don't harvest any winter squash until after the first frost...

Japanease onions
Garlic
Overwintering peas
