in internet explorer 7 how can i get the 'File, Edit, View...' buttons in their normal position, i.e. above the address bar, its driving me mad!!

At the top of the IE7 page you'll see some faint dots in a vertical row on the extreme left.
If you move the curser over the ones to the left of 'File, Edit,view etc. it should change to a horizontal double headed arrow. You then left click (it'll change to a resizing bracket) and drag the row to the top of the page to just under the title bar, release and it should be back in its default position. Works for me, anyway. Hope this helps.

The faint dots are not there by default.
To get the faint dots you need to select Tools, then Toolbars, then you see the option "Lock the Toolbars".
If it has a tick against it then select on "Lock the Toolbars" to remove the tick.

But even doing that, I cannot get the File, Menu etc above the address bar (this is on XP).
It always sits just under the address bar, I cannot get it between the blue window title and the address bar.

Right click in the right pane of the editor and select new value and then DWORD value
Right click the new key you have just created and select rename and then rename it to excatly �ITBar7Position� (without the quotes)
Double click the new key to open its properties and change the value data to 1 and put the tick in decimal under the base heading.
Close the registry editor and reload IE and the menu bar will be above the address bar
