Animals and rose tinted glasses

I have seen a post today, and heard often, that is offensive to call badly behaved people 'animals' as animals don't behave like that.
Why do some people view animals in this way when nature documentaries show animals killing and eating their own young and a quick google will show a pig eating its own piglet; a chimp maiming and killing a baby chimp and discussions as to why a dog has eaten one of her pups?
I blame Walt Disney for anthropomorphising animals and making them cutesy.

But it defintely does happen for many reasons.
However, they do not plan it or have the human ability to contrive and plan it and work out the most awful way of hurting or killing their own kind. Only humans do that. Only humans can be just plain evil!
