As an aside: In one production, years ago, the stage hands had placed sprung 'mattresses' to break the heroine's fall.Unfortunately, they overdid the springing and Floria flung herself dramatically from the parapet only to bounce back into full view of the audience.This continued for a little while until she finally subsided out of sight.

This mechanical intrusion was not thought to have added anything to the tragedy.
