It's traditional British food, such a a joint of beef roasted until it's dry, brownish-grey throughout and completely flavourless. Served with mashed potato (with lumps), plus carrots and greens which have both been boiled for days and soggy Yorkshire pudding, with the whole lot covered in packet gravy.
shame on you!!!

surely it's food that's cooked without adding herbs, spices, sauces, etc...
its such a shame that abers can't come up with anything interesting, try lemon chicken, so simple, one chicken, one lemon cut in to two thirds, stick the biggest piece into the bird under the breast, and wait for the most delicious moist chicken you have ever had
mmmmmm......but traditional 'old' English food would have used masses of herbs and spices. It is only recently that it has become synonymous with bland.
When I was a kid my dad used to make me loads of irish stews and that horrid gammon with cabbage meal. My mother also likes to drown white fish in butter. Those types of meals have always been what I class as plain food.
To me, *plain food* is anything cooked with no flavourings, spices or herbs with no *unusual* vegetables like mushrooms or chillies or peppers or even sweetcorn. It seems to refer to cooked meat, stewed peas and carrots plus some boiled potatoes and is suitable for folk with no taste buds or who are afraid of any new experience.
I would have thought good old plain food is... shepherds pie, bangers and mash, traditional roast dinner, english breakfast.that sort of thing. Nothing wrong with that sort of dish.I also enjoy a good variety of different food, but enjoy any type of food.

Meat stews with pearl barley, dumplings , and lots of veggies.
Followed by apple pie and cream

Then a cheese board.with crackers.
Yummy.

How plain do you want?

Omelette
Bacon and egg.
Cheese sarnie.
Cheese on toast.
Jam and bread.
Bangers and mash

Best of luck.
