What is going on with my jpegs?
I'm running Windows XP. I keep my jpeg photos in a selection of folders, and among the options that come up when I open a folder is 'Picture Tasks', including 'view as slideshow', 'copy to CD' etc.
Except for one folder of photos of Marble Hill, a stately home in south London. The Picture Tasks item doesn't appear... unless I rename the folder Marblehill or Marble Hil or almost anything else, in which case it's fine.
But why on earth? Does XP ban the words Marble Hill? Can anyone explain? I'm at a loss.

Rename the old folder to MH-old (or anything different). Next rename the new folder to Marble Hill. If it works OK, you can delete the MH-old folder.
There is a limit to the filepath name in XP - can you name the folder somethinglongerthanmarblehill ?

thanks, LeMarchand, but I tried that - set up a new folder (no trouble), copied the photos over (no trouble), named the folder Marble Hil (no trouble), added another L - and it happened again.
As well as the Picture Tasks option, the film strip mode vanishes. The 'File & Folders Tasks' option is unaffected.
This not actually a problem, as I've called it Marblehill (no trouble once again), but I'm really curious to know what's going wrong.

I have no explanation for the reason behind the (mis)behaviour of the folder named Marble Hill but it should be possible to correct the problem by customising the properties of said folder.
Right-click the folder and select Properties.
In the Customize tab select the folder type to use as template (in this case Photo Album) and confirm.

thanks, kempie, that's done the trick. Files filled with jpegs normally default to the Photo Album option, it appears, but this one seemed to change away again when the final L was added to the name. I can't even begin to understand this but I've noticed before that I am incompatible with any technology invented since the radiogram.
