I've only ever heard this referred to once, in the episode, "Dates" and he was simply Able Seamon Trotter.

Apparently as an officer, but I don't think it is talked about much at all.

Uncle Albert joined the Royal Navy at 17 and then spent the rest of his life recounting tales from the war. He won seven medals - although this was largely due to the fact that he had an extraordinarily unfortunate time serving on seven ships that were sunk over a period of 4 years.

After the war Albert joined the Merchant Navy and then took up the hobby of falling down pub cellars throughout the South East.

Famous Quotes:

During the war...
You alright son?
No, I'm the only one in our family who ever went to sea. I tell a lie. My Grandmother's brother was safety officer on the Titanic.

Albert During the...
Del If you say during the war, I'll pour this cup of tea over your head!
Albert I wasn't going to say during the war!
Del Alright then.
Albert Bloody little know all!
Del Sorry
Albert That's alright. During the 1939-1945 conflict with Germany...

Octavius that was funny
I just wish it was my humour and that I wasn't plagarising someone elses work!!
Was Uncle Albert in the Navy, I don't ever recall him mentioning that he was !
he was a boiler makers hand as mentioned in the feature length episode to hull and back when they try to sail to holland and get badly lost del says to albert. ithought you knew how to sail a ship and produces a navigation chart albert replies i never learnt to read these charts as i was a boiler makers hand and the boiler has a tendancy to go wherever the  ship goes
On a side note, Buster Merryfield who played Uncle Albert waas actually in the navy apparently.  On an "official" tribute site (following his death) it mentioned that Uncle Albert was an officer - maybe in OF&H even he wasn't sure!
