There's a 16 year age gap between my two daughters. And I wouldn't have it any other way (just as well really isn't it? lol)
Daughter number 1 was more or less independant of me by that age so I could devote almost 100% to daughter number 2, and now they truly dote on each other, none of that daft sibbling rivalry which seems to occur in alot of families. Daughter number 1 is almost a 2nd mum to her and is forever taking her out.
And not fogetting a totally reliable babysitter every now and then either!

I have not done it but the age gap between my sister and my brother is 11 years, whilst its good that my sister and me (im 9 years older than him) looked after him, he missed out on having a sibling who had more in common with him, even my mom has always said she wished she had had another child afterwards.
that being said there is nothing wrong with being an only child, I also have a friend whos brother is 14 years older than her and had moved out when she was young. with a big gap your child would be more like an only child

Our older girls were twelve and fourteen when their little sister was born. We did plan to have another one soon after, but nature had other ideas.
They were of an age where jealousy was never an issue, and they spoiled her rotten.
She is now nineteen, and her big sisters are in their thirties and they both still look after her in their own ways, and they are all close.
Of course there are pluses and minuses about 'starting again', but we have never regretted it for a moment.

I haven't done it but I can see lots of advantages:
Each baby has maximum attention.
Child number 1 has had your undivided attention for 16 years.
Child number 1 has the benefit of being able to help with baby.
Child number 2 has the benefit of having the attention of an extra 'adult'.
Mum has the benefit of the extra help.
Parents have the benefit of starting again as more mature adults, with the added advantage of hindsight.
Go for it!

Hi there x
I have 2 daughters aged nearly 20 and 18. When eldest daughter was 18, I had another baby. He is now 2years old.
I had my daughters very young and my son at age 34.
I find it so much easier this time round but I am now a single parent also as I split up with my husband after 20years. It wasn't because of my son though.
All I can advise is go for it if you feel it is right. It's amazing how many things have changed though like how you lay the baby etc.
Good luck xx

I've got two sisters 10 and 12 years older than me and looking back I think that I was probably quite spoilt - my eldest sister got married at 19 and there is less of an age gap between me and my nephew than me and my sisters!
I did feel a bit like an only child sometimes, but I had and still have very good friends of my age, and am good friends with both sisters so I would think that there are more pros than cons.

Our Son was nearly 16 when we went on to have two more, so we have got three wonderful Boys, and enjoyed them all so much.
They are all grown up now and have given us lovely grand children.
Go on , go for it , you only live once. you will always wish you had done it, you wont have any regrets.
Good luck.
