They are planning on cutting the Meals on Wheels service. Why would they want to do that and who actually pays for the service? I know there is a Credit Crunch going on but I think its disgusting that the elderly and infirm have to suffer like this. Is this what they call "Care in the Community"?

I can't comment on your area but I work for 'The Council'. We receive less money every year to perform more services every year. I'm going to sound like a Daily Mail reader here but the cost of providing services for the vast numbers of immigrants is crippling.

Central Government cannot be fully aware of the correct numbers we have to deal with annually because their funding is woefully short. For example, we are duty bound to provide literature in forty seven languages and provide interpreters to assist in all aspects of local services... the money has to come from somewhere.
