walking stick,s

i have cut some branches off a tree, some of these are , i think suitable for making walking sticks out of . but what i would like to know is there a special way to straiten the branches , as they are a bit crooked? thanking you in advance for any sugestions

You will find it very difficult to do yourself as the way this is done is to use high pressure steam to soften the wood. It then has to be held in place while it cools and drys slowly. If this process is rushed it can effect the strength of the wood. Not something you want if you are going to be putting your weight on it.

If the bend in the wood is slight you can warm the area with an electric paint stripper ( similar to a hair dryer). Be careful not to scortch the wood though.When the wood is warmed up bend the stick against something opposite to the bend,this usually staraightens it out. Keep looking down the length of the wood to see where the faults are and deal with each bend in turn. If you place the wood in a room with heating after you have straightened it the wood will revert back to its original form so store in a cool place.Bends near to knots in the wood are very difficult to take out and I wouldn't bother.Hope this helps
