Further to my previous post, why not simply explore the area by bus or (possibly better) by train?.
A ticket for a day's unlimited travel in West Yorkshire will only cost you �6 (or �5 if you limit your travels to either just using buses or just using trains). Even better, I can see nothing in the ticket rules which prevents you and your friend travelling on a family ticket. That would give you both unlimited travel (as long as you stayed together) for just �8.50 in total:

If you were going to Bradford for the Media Museum, it might make sense to combine it with a trip to Halifax, to see the Piece Hall. (It's a beautiful historic building which has been preserved as a shopping centre populated by lots of quirky independent traders):
