I have just filled my 54 Fusion with petrol when it is diesel. The tank was registering vurtually empty and I filled it to the brim. I then drove for about 1 mile. What damage will this do?
You better keep driving......'cause you're for it when you get home. Ultimate damage! Maybe even a new fuel tank/engine/car.......Get to Heathrow, buy a ticket to elsewhere. Or ring the AA/RAC.
what the hell you defo do not keep driving for a start the petrol has to be drained as you only drove a mile the car may have still used the diesel in the fuel lines for the 1 mile drive drain the petril and fill up with diesel again i can sell you a device that prevents you putting diesel in a petrol car and vice vera
Dont drive it any further, and i think you will be ok .But you will have to get it drained/syphoned .My friend done the same to my vehicle but realised after 10 litres of unleaded and then filled it up to the brim with diesel and I had no probs.Ithink its worse if you put diesel into an unleaded .Im sure if you googled it you will find more precise info.good luck
Thanks all for your thoughts/help, all is now sorted and fortunately it was only a case of pump out the u/l, flush out and then refuel. No damage to the engine - I guess I am very lucky! Though it cost a few bob!
sorry now but i dont mean to be nasty but how can u confuse petrol with diesel when the pumps are always a different colour and it says on the pumps whether its petrol or diesel???a little common senses might help
Hi Shell1, I agree it may sound daft (and it is!) but we have one car petrol, the other diesel, also I had such a busy week I think I was on another planet. I am sure we have all done daft things in the past.
