Best Washing Machine - Best price?

My pensioner parents washing machine has finally gone kaput. We've decided to try and buy them a new one, but our finances are pretty strapped at the minute. We need to find a reasonably priced machine that won't cost us a fortune to buy and them a fortune to run. Any recommendations as to the best affordable machine and the best place to buy it would be gratefully received. We reckon we can afford up to �250 which seems to take in brands like Zanussi and Indesit. But I wondered if anybody had seen any special offers around on the web at the minute. I disagree! Washing machines have come down a fair bit in price and �250 should be ok. Don't know of any specific good deals at present but I have experience of both Zanussi and Indesit and they are good. Don't be swayed by expensive ones that offer a million programmes as Iu never use more than about four.

Also, B & Q often have some brilliant offers on. We picked a Servis one up for a friend of ours, and it's been amazingly reliable. It was �120!!!

Lucca, you are wrong, very wrong, do you actually know what you are talking about? Maybe not...

You can not get a decent washing machine for less than �500. The best washing machines made are those made by Miele, but some ignorant people, dont realise these are expensive for a reason, maybe because they are simply better than anything else. They have been designed and built to last for at least 20 years, (a feat no other brand can achieve), and have the longest guarantees running- that is how proud they are of their machines.
They are also the only manufacturer left that makes their own machines and are still located in Germany, unlike Bosch who are moving plants to China and Spain, and AEG moving production to Italy.
Come on people, cheap machines are cheap for a reason, Hotpoint, Servis, Indesit, Matsui, Kenwood, Haier, Beko and whoever are built to a price not a specification. Their quality and performance is reduced, and for buying these machines you will end up spending more in the long run by replacing them.

Thanks very much everybody. Very helpful and much appreciated. Adam I know what you're saying, I have Miele laundry equipment myself. I've had the machines for years and yes they are very reliable. Even when I bought them more than a decade ago they were hugely expensive. But as I mentioned, we can't afford to spend getting on for a thousand pounds these days and to be honest all my mum wants is a machine that will do the job. Indesit or Zanussi etc as mentioned will be fine for the volume of washing they need to do. I'm pretty sure with the info you've all supplied I should be able to get a half decent machine for well below the �250 mentioned, particularly as lots of suppliers are discounting and offering free delivery at the moment. So although Adam is right about brands like Miele, Lucca did actually answer the question I asked. Thank you all for being so helpful it's been very useful.

if you really have a tight budget, i would suggest a zanussi, they are still fairly ok
