I think they can sometimes give you a small op to help, also if he is overweight or drinks then this can make it worse. He might need to go to a sleep clinic to get checked in case he has sleep apnoea (where you stop breathing for a little bit as you snore). I'd book in with the doc and see what he can do. Don't get fobbed off by them, this is a very real problem which can affect your marriage badly.
I remember something about a special palate you can put in your mouth during the night because some snoring can be caused by something slipping at the back of your throat and blocking the airway. Sorry to be so vague gina32 and that I cant remember the full details, perhaps google it, could your husband not book some time off work to go to the doctors, not that he should have to. Hope you find a solution soon.
I've just cured my horrendous snoring. I had devleoped nasal polyps (small harmless fluid-filled lumps) which are sited inside the nostrils - often in both but sometimes only in one. They got bigger and bigger over a period of about a year so my consultant removed them. Small op, but it was the cure for snoring that me and hubby both wanted. Don't snore anymore. He needs to ask his GP for a referral to the ENT clinic. They will pop a small camera up his nose to check if indeed he has polys. If so you can treat with a spray, but if that doesn't work surgery is the only answer. Good Luck.
Just to add Gina .... if nothing works, try not to let it affect your marriage, you can sleep in another room but still have fun times in bed at the weekend and before you go to sleep you can then go to your own room - he will be feeling bad about it too and it is better to just accept it if you can. The other thing you can try is the wax earplugs from Boots, they are pretty good.
Hi, My hubby snores so badly that he now slleps in a different room! He has tried everything, including an operation which he said was the most painful experience he has gone through. I know it sounds bad, but it saved our marriage when we stopped shairing a bed. We both were so exhausted all the time, me because of his snoring and him because I kept waking him up to tell him to move over or shut up! Now we both sleep a lot better, and still find other times to 'get together' if you get my drift...Sharing a bed together is fine, if you can, but don't think your marriage will fall apart if you can't.
