What;s the best method of making porridge? I'm a novice so at the moment my porridge is like cement when it comes out of the microwave. It's very stodgy. I use the microwave cos i have no time in the morning to stand over the hob!

This makes it easier to eat and, more importantly, stops it continuing to cook and going hard.
Also, transfer it to a new bowl or pan, or the heat from the first bowl or pan continues stiffening the porridge after you've finished cooking it.

I always add twice amount of cold water to the oats and lit the gas under it and give a quick stir. It doesnt need much monitoring and is really quick - no more than a couple of minutes to boil and cook, serve with banana and dash of honey. If you want a dollop of yogurt plus fruits such as kiwi or strawberry is very nice. The results are much easier to control than inside a microwave.
