Old Tour de France title music
4 Answers
I'm trying to work out what the song is that Channel 4 used to use as the title music for their coverage of the Tour de France. It's kind of synthy/techno music with the tune from Frere Jacques over the top of it.
I can tell you right now, straight up, IT'S NOT KRAFTWERK.
I know they produced an album called 'Tour de France Soundtracks' but that doesn't automatically mean that any piece of music ever used on a TdF program was by Kraftwerk, not to mention in this case the piece in question was being used at least a full 15 years before the Kraftwerk album was released.
So, please, don't try and tell me it's by them.
There's a video here but it refuses to embed for some reason: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1IMjb6sU5Mg

Guitar riff from ZIP - Your Love (Shelley with other musicians and not The *********). This track seems to be more difficult to locate though.

That certainly brings back memories.
Apparently the ITV coverage of the 2008 TdF included a reprise of the tune - a nice throwback by the production company Vsquared TV (Chairman Brian Venner; the original director and then producer of Channel 4's TdF coverage during the 80s and 90s).

Yeah, I know it was shown in one of the programs during this year's coverage. And you're right, it certainly brings back memories.
I'd just been hoping to find an mp3 of it somewhere or something like that.
That thread you linked to did at least turn up this second video which seems to have a clearer opening sequence: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CEQ3NwgbHsI (again it won't embed for some reason)
Annoyingly though, someone did try and pass it off as Kraftwerk again.
Maybe I'll register on the ITV boards and see if they can point me in the right direction.
