i can't open my files

i can't open any of my files help!!!!!!!!!!!! i am online and can access any web page i've saved ,my pc is a dell and i have windows xp ,i have tried rebooting and have scanned it and done system restore ,when i try to access my files it just says windows is not responding

Press f8 a few times during boot and go to "Safe Mode". (It will look ugly). Can you access files in safe mode?

i did another system restore to an even earlier date and another scan in case there were any nasties causing the problem and now it seems to be working ok (touch wood) thanks for your help ,lemarchand
