No facebook is not to blame at all. The guy was just very unstable in the first place to do something like that. I do feel for the family of the lady its not fair when things like this is the world happen!!

If my ex got the chance to see my fcbk profile, he would murder me. When I first went on it, a mate of mine smiled at me ( anormal thing to do on the superpoke applictaion) however it ended up with the police coming and all my windows being smashed in....some ppl are just psychos who would prob snap anyway, but facebook seems to make them 10 times worse
Facebook is not to blame, if she had referred to herself as single in any place/context he would have reacted the same. he couldn't handle her leaving and this is his answer. I had an ex the same, the same type of 'man' that reacts to breakups by murdering their children just to hurt their ex.
facebook is like any other site, you only have the words in front of you, you cannot see the person typing and sending them, it is a dangerous thing if the account is being used by the wrong person.
