I have just made my Christmas pudding in the pressure cooker and the inside of the pan is really black.
Does anyone know how to clean it? I could use a Brillo pad but thought there might be a chemical remedy. I tried acid, bleach, hydrogen peroxide and washing soda, all with no effect.
Does anyone have an idea? Thanks

half a lemon in with water and boil it. It is a chemical reaction as you say. next time put lemon juice or vinegar in with the boiling water before you up the pressure. Yum yum I am making mine next week.
Bet you used tin foil to cover your pudding.

Try boiling cabbage in the pan.
oh and if you have a slow cooker use it on Christmas Day to stand your pud in boiling water in and slow cook for 2 hrs or so. It means that it doesn't steam up the kitchen and doesn't use up cooker space. Make a foil cover for cooker if your pud basin is too deep.

Thank you both. I will try the lemon and water, if that doesn't do it I will try cabbage.
Yes Ethel I did use foil!!!!!!!
Thanks Naomicorlett I will use the slow cooker on the day.
I'm a bloke, I should have asked the opposite sex before I started. :-)
Thanks again.
I had a friend in High Wycombe called V Horwood in the 80's
use your microwave to cook the pudding next time. i always used to use the pressure cooker to do ours until a few years ago, and now always use the microwave instead. saves time and fuel and the puds turn out exactly the same.

Hi Naomicorlett, I'm afraid I don't know any Horwoods in high Wycombe. We came from Colchester many years ago.

ethandron. I have read that it is rather dodgy to use the microwave for Christmas pud due to the high sugar content.
We have heated it up on the day, but just one portion at a time for a very short time.
