halloween masks

On yesterdays breakfast tv there was a piece that showed scary masks being sold at woolworths for Halloween called something like "scary old pensioners" or the like. The debate was whether they were offensive to the elderly. What I am most concerned about is when did the Uk become so interested in this horrible "trick or treating" when it is obviously not a UK custom. Also the masks that were shown were all portraying white people,

I loooooove halloween...Its simply MAGICAL for kids..I remember running about thinking I was a witch with my pumpking & going to wee parties when I was little. Its fun!
So someone jumped on the band wagon to make a small profit out of halloween and suddenly everyone goes nuts...Only the temperamental and hyper sensitive would find this offensive. Its morally wrong but not something to go awol about!
