12 Points on licence

Hi, I have a slight problem..... My work have just recieved notice that i have been caught speeding again. I have an Irish licence with a GB counterpart. 3 points shall expire at the begining of Feb. I recieved 3 points in May this year My work recieved notice of a speeding offence in Sept, Stll waiting to hear back from the police. My work have just recieved another notice of speeding today. What are my options (I have slowed down) (Ironically all my offences were for travelling between 35-40mph in a 40mph zone). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Brendan

I can't see how you got done for speeding if you were driving below the speed limit.

It is the date of the offences that count, not the court date, or the date the points are put on the licence.

Well slow down for a start!

when you go to court explain that you need your license for work and hope they are lenient, 12 points is not an automatic ban it's is at the magistrates discretion , however as you have accumulated most of the points in a short space of time don't get your hopes up too high!

I should imagine your work are getting a little bored of receiving speeding tickets for you too!

Pink-Kittens, i appreciate that speeding kills and i have slowed down. I have driven approx 900-1000 miles per week for the past 10yrs. All 4 of my offences were just over the limit and whilst I am not condoning my behavior, sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture before telling somebody that they should be off the road!!!

I am certain to get a ban, I just wanted to hear from people who may have had a similar experience.

The ban will be for a minimm of 6 months, not 12.

You can argue that "exceptional hardship" will ensue, but it is not an easy argument with which to succeed.

As far as I know, that could possibly lose you your licence - I'm not sure (I think it's if you get 12 points within 12 months - check it out - I'm not an expert !).

Judging by the response to your posting, I just feel that I have to say -

(Unfortunately) most folk still don't appreciate the role of the "common - everyday lorry driver" or the circumstances & pressures he (or she) has to work with - or - how the food that they buy every week gets on their supermarket shelves !!

Also, that the vast majority of incidents on the road that involve HGV's are usually caused by car drivers (around 70-80% of the time).

I shall accept whatever punishment is directed at me. The fact that i have accumulated 9 points in the last 6mths is not good!! I'm not sure what happens.......... once i officially recieve notice that i have recieved 12 pts do i automatically need to attend the magistrates court? If so do i need the services of a solicitor? I'm going with the idea that i get 12 mths which will have serious implications......... anything less will be greatly appreciated............ I shall kepp you informed!!

Hi, once you reach 12 points you are looking at a ban. It's not 100% guaranteed that you will get one, exceptional hardship may be taken into consideration, but pretty likely. The ban will be 6 months, unless they decide that they need to make an example of you.

You will be required to attend court, they cannot ban any driver unless he's in front of them. It may well be worth your while to get some legal advice from a solicitor who knows the local magistrates. As in all cases, showing contrition and being polite will work better than blaming everybody else.

Everyone in Court on the day of sons case was banned, even mothers needing cars for school-runs etc. It's zero tolerance (hate that b????y expression). Speed cameras do not cut fatal accidents (t'was on news last week). Speed camera should only be on 'black-spots' and have been proved to just drum up income.

Take your gran (as dependant) to Court and plead gran needs you to drive her about. Any other dependants who need your chauffering services could help your case.

After sons case (fine �1k) plus another 3point penalty = 15points but 3 now defunct due to out of date.
