Dustbin numbers

What would be the best think to paint a house number on a dustbin with? I.e. what type of paint?

I'd say gloss paint, that can run & look a bit tatty though - for a neater look, make a template out of cardboard ot the numbers, stick to the bin, mask the rest of it and spray it with car aerosol paint.  Wouldn't large stick on number be easier?
Better still, go to a motor parts shop and you can buy sticky black numbers (as on a number plate) and stick them on the bin. They have lasted me years.
