just come back from my town and they have the christmas lights up and flashing, for goodness sake its still october!

Then you must really hate me- I've bought most of my Christmas presents already, and this morning I bought another set of lights for my tree and 2 boxes of cards.

they had halloween stuff in the shop in august :O
Definitely Diwali - then they use the same lights for Christmas
I was in Spain 2 weeks ago ..a hot sunny
day and there was a Xmas tree in a shop
window !! It seemed very odd ..
Christmas lights should not be turned on until after Rememberence Sunday.

It could have been (as suggested earlier) for Diwali.

besides which as i said before my council tax bill is more than enough, without having to pay for things like this, regardless of what its for
Dewali is also called the festival of lights. As it is only for a few days, maybe they will be switched off again until after rememberence day, or when you normally have your switching on ceremony.
If you are incensed enough about wating council tax money this way, the best thing would be to either ring or write to your local council with your grievance.

No they probably wouldn't.
But maybe you would feel better for having made your views known?
Many people probably feel the same way as yourself. Have you a local newspaper? write a letter expressing your views.
in this time of cold,dark unfriendly winter whats wrong with bringing in some festive cheer early? at least with all the extra lights you'll now be able to se the face of the criminal that robs you!
But I do agree that it is ok to put the lights up early......just so long as they are not switched on before rememberence Sunday.
